There are two platoons in the 4th Battle Company.
The 1st Platoon follows the Codex Astartes to the letter. The 2nd
Platoon, however, deviates from it greatly. It's possibly heretical
organization alone might be enough to order Exterminatus.
20 years ago Sergeant Drakon was given a field promotion
to Lieutenant after the 4th Company fought in the Kusha Rebellion.
Over 70% of the Company died fighting the renegade marines. After
this horrendous campaign Lieutenant Drakon reformed the 2nd Platoon into
his new philosophy of warfare. Apparently, he believes that the only thing
that saved his life was his heavy plasma pistol. Despite the fact that
venting plasma burned through his arm and chest armor, horribly scarring
his body, Drakon believes adamantly in the value of plasma weaponry.
Currently, the platoon has 8 Plasma Cannons, 12
plasma guns, and 10 plasma pistols. Each Squad Sergeant has a plasma pistol,
and roughly one third of all the marines have plasma weaponry. In order
to obtain his plasma weapons, Drakon has traded all of his flamer and melta
weaponry, as well as all of his missile launchers and laser cannons, into
the Vindicator Armory. Apparently his goal is to exchange all of his bolters
for plasma weapons.
The Dragons got their nickname from the 4th Company
Captain during the Higa Conflict. He's quoted as saying, "By the Emperor,
they look like a great worm breathing blue fire upon those poor devils!"
He recounted how during this night battle against the rebels, the battlefield
was illuminated by the sheer volume of plasma fire. The only casualties
the 2nd platoon suffered fighting against the traitors were from their
own weapons.
Among the 2nd Platoon, it is a mark of honor to
be scarred by their weaponry. Drakon has suffered the worst, having his
right arm totally replaced by a bionic one, and his entire upper torso
is covered with scar tissue. His face was once blasted by an exploding
plasma pistol, melting the edges of his ears. He actually looks semi-reptilian
now.
Drakon keeps his Tech-marine busy repairing the
dangerous plasma weaponry. They are trying to develop a better heat-transfer
system for plasma weaponry, as well as develop new weaponry. They're attempting
to create a plasma weapon similar to a storm bolter, but it keeps violently
exploding as the waste heat detonates the plasma canisters. They're also
working on turning a plasma power canister into a grenade, but they can't
get a reliable timed detonation.
All in all, Drakon's Dragons might be as much as a threat to themselves as they are to the enemy. However, they excel in engagements against heavily armored foes, and their power armor gives them a good amount of protection. Perhaps they will prove themselves to be within the Emperor's grace.
