SUBJECT:  Mechanized Infantry Battle Doctrine THOUGHT: Through repetition comes perfection.

Lord, I have obtained a field manual from the 2nd Company's campaign in the Santa Fe system. The 2nd Company is expertly crushing a rebellion on Santa V with their Razorbacks... why these miners are rebelling is beyond me. I have agents trying to discern that information. In any case, I will be uploading specific tactical information from this field manual to this report. There is much I do not yet understand, but with persistence and Faith I will understand.

Standard Mechanized Platoon Organization Chart

Section 1-1

The traditions of our Company stretch back into time for over a millennia. All of that experience and knowledge is now at your disposal within this manual. May you use this power to fulfill the Emperor's will.
At the heart of everything is a sound strategy for achieving victory, which can be summarized into these principles.

Maneuver: The key principle of our Company's strategy. The whole purpose of using the Razorback is to quickly transport marines to key points on the battle field. Cover can be easily utilized when it is easily reached. Weaknesses in the enemy can be exploited through rapid movement. Without maneuverability, your platoon would be easily surrounded by the enemy and crushed.

Suppressive Fire: Once all key points have been secured through maneuvering, the next phase is to suppress the enemy with gunfire. By concentrating on weapons fire, and coordinating the efforts of your Razorback squadron and infantry platoon, you can easily decimate any opposition, forcing them to fall back or be annihilated.

Assault: To break your enemy is vital to survival. To utterly annihilate the enemy is the key to victory. Once the enemy is routed, the platoon uses its maneuverability to cut off retreat and utterly destroy the enemy. There is nothing more glorious than for the enemy to gaze upon you in terror as you rip them apart in close quarters fighting. However, few assaults succeed without first breaking the enemy through suppressive fire.

Section 3-1

Situation: The platoon is making a deliberate attack against an enemy position. Due to the dense terrain, the platoon dismounts from the Razorbacks at the assembly area, and commences the attack in the standard column formation; the whole platoon marching along side the Razorback squadron where terrain is the densest.

Step 1, Enemy Contact: If you gain the initiative on the enemy, immediately move all forces to strategic positions. Do not worry about firing upon the enemy as your forces maneuver, but take any opportunities that are available. This is in accord to Principle #1.
If the enemy is prepared and takes the initiative:

  1. React to contact: The two lead squads should react to contact, establishing a base of fire upon the enemy. The two trail squads should maneuver, both to support the lead squads and secure any nearby strategic positions.
  2. Deploy the Razorbacks: Reposition the Razorback Squadron as necessary. Concentrate on securing strategic positions that will allow them to support the infantry positions with their fire latter in the battle.
Step 2, Locate the Enemy: Once contact has been established, the platoon leader's task is to locate and identify the enemy. Enemy targets should be prioritized, based on the mission objective and their threat to the infantry. Keep these target priorities in mind through the rest of the mission, and be willing to change them as the battle progresses.

Step 3, Suppress the Enemy: The platoon leader determines if the Razorbacks and squad in contact can suppress the enemy, based on the volume and accuracy of enemy fire, and ultimately, on casualties taken. If casualties are ever high, the platoon should break contact and report to the Company. The enemy is suppressed if the platoon can inflict enough casualties to force the enemy to consider falling back

If the platoon CAN suppress the enemy, then the Razorbacks and base of fire element should continue to suppress the enemy. The platoon leader should consider maneuvering the supporting squads, based on the mission, into assault positions.

If the platoon CANNOT suppress the enemy, then the supporting squads should concentrate on suppressing the enemy as well. The platoon leader should then assess if the enemy can be suppressed.

If the answer is YES, continue to suppress the enemy, and consider moving the supporting squads into assault positions.

If the answer is still NO, continue to fire upon the enemy to maximum effectiveness. Normally, your platoon will become the base of fire element for the Company in this situation... Therefor, your job is to keep the enemy's focus on you while the company maneuvers to attack their flank. Hold out as long as possible. If you manage to suppress the enemy, consider positioning for an assault.

Step 4, Assault the Enemy: Once the enemy has been suppressed, the platoon leader determines if the support squad can maneuver, based on the following:

  • Locations of enemy positions and obstacles
  • Size of enemy force
  • Vulnerable flank
  • Covered and concealed flanking routs to the enemy
If the answer is YES, maneuver the squad into the assault:
  1. With the Razorbacks and base of fire squads suppressing the enemy flank, the platoon leader leads the assaulting squads on a flanking rout to the enemy positions.
  2. The assaulting squads should leapfrog into their assault positions; first one team establishes a base of fire as the other team moves up, then switch rolls.
  3. Once in position, the base of fire element shifts their fire to the opposite enemy flank, as the assaulting squads conduct their assault.
  4. The Razorbacks concentrates on isolating the assaulted enemy position.
  5. The assaulting squads fight through the enemy positions until the enemy is annihilated.
If the answer is NO, or the assaulting squads can no longer maneuver, then deploy the platoon to suppress the enemy with fire. If the assault element can then maneuver, continue the assault on the enemy.
